Plastic waste is vastly becoming the top culprit in world pollution, with a staggering 381 million tonnes of plastic waste being discarded each year^ globally. Approximately half of this plastic is single-use plastic, and only about 9% has ever been recycled. Our actions over the next decade will significantly impact the state of our land and oceans for many years to come.

What about Plastic Bottles?

Did you know that less than half of the discarded plastic bottles are recycled? A plastic bottle can last for 450 years in the ocean, and we are currently consuming 500 billion plastic bottles every year^. With so much plastic waste all around us, what can we do, and how can we be part of the solution?

Garments made from recycled plastic

Most of us would be familiar with plastic bottle recycling, in which the plastic is being remade into other plastic products. However, plastic bottles can also be recycled and made into clothing! Eco-wear Fabrics are sustainable materials made from recycled bottles, and they are just as comfortable and durable as your everyday garments.

There are even more benefits to using sustainable fabrics than just saving our oceans from plastic bottle pollution. The process of making the recycled fabric is more environmentally friendly than creating textiles from scratch, consuming less energy and water while emitting fewer greenhouse gasses.

How does that work?

Simply put, plastic bottles are firstly washed and processed into flakes in a recycling facility; these flakes are then melted into polyester, for which yarns are extracted. Eco-friendly fabrics are created with these recycled yarns, which are spun and woven into textiles and made into garments.

Unlike new textiles, recycled fabrics are more sustainable without the need to be derived from petroleum and fossil fuels. Furthermore, EcoWear Fabrics can be recycled again and again without compromising on quality. Wastage is also minimised with continued recycling, further lessening carbon impact on the environment.

Where can we buy eco-fabric garments?

You can start with your school uniforms! Here at Mr Charles, we are working towards a sustainable future by using eco-fabrics that are made from 100% recycled plastics such as drinking bottles.

Be part of the solution and join us to reach our goal of removing 1 million bottles from our oceans and landfills by having your uniforms made from plastic bottles that have been repurposed into sustainable fabrics. You will demonstrate leadership in your local community and educate the next generation about a sustainable future, with students wearing uniforms that save the environment as a constant daily reminder!

Contact us today to find out how we can make this happen.
